Rothenburg (over the Tauber River) is a walled city, largely (and charmingly) restored. It’s a major tourist destination ever since 19th century artists rediscovered it after a couple of centuries of hibernation. Its unique claim to fame is the Master Draught, when the mayor saved the city from siege during the 30 Years War by chugging 3 3/4 liters of wine. He slept for several days afterwards and you can watch him drinking when the clock tower chimes. Nobody said so, but his hangover dehydration might have been remedied at one of the numerous public wells.
